Experience

Some twenty years ago it was evident that there was a gap in the market for a supplier who could support industry with the best-quality composite materials in Australia. Nobody appeared to be doing it very well, and so Lavender Composites was born.

Initially we imported a few key products, such as structural prepregs and carbon fibre reinforcements, then our range grew to include thermoplastic sandwich panels, gel coat panels, and GRP skins.

Our relationships with leading international manufacturers are well established, which gives us buying power and better lead times. As well as our warehouse facility in Brisbane, we stock panels in Melbourne and Hamilton, NZ. Lavender attaining ISO 9001 certification means that we consistently provide products and services that meet customer and regulatory requirements. These are just some of the reasons why Lavender is now one of the preferred suppliers of composite panel in Australia and New Zealand.

What’s great about working at Lavender?

As an engineer, I’ve always been interested in how materials and products are designed and composites grabbed my attention. I believe that having the best-quality materials at your fingertips makes it remarkably easy to manufacture the best product design.

I started Lavender Composites to fill a gap in the market with excellent products and to provide sound technical support to customers who needed that extra assistance with product selection and advice on manufacturing methods.

Over two decades, Lavender has grown to take its place among the top suppliers in the composites industry.

Experience

My first job after completing trade school was as a payroll clerk for a metal door company. Recognising my potential, they sent me to night courses in sales and business management. I moved to Western Australia to set up the door business and expand into trailer sales. I started working with Lombardi Bros in the heavy transport equipment industry, travelling all over Australia taking trailer products to shows. This experience taught me to think on my feet, as I helped design equipment and solve problems alongside the client. As the company grew, so did my sales team, leading to my appointment as General Manager. After 15 years with Lombardi, I moved to SFM Engineering as General Manager, becoming an equal shareholder in the company a few years later. It was at SFM that I was first introduced to composite panel, the material that would revolutionise the transport building industry like nothing else before it. Using the panel on stock crates led to me winning an award for innovation in the livestock industry.

I have given 28 years of service to the Commercial Vehicle Industry Association, including as national chairman of this progressive organisation that improves the industry with better legislation and new codes of practice.

What’s great about working at Lavender?

I was working with the manufacturer of Monopan composite panels when I was introduced to Lavender as the Queensland distributors. I really liked Rudi and his ability to think outside of the square. He has a good engineering brain, which I tap into when we have curly client conundrums. At Lavender, I’m able to use all my skills; not only am I out on the road selling, but I also help the client conceptualise and engineer their project while ensuring that the job is done properly and to code. I have autonomy and lots of great clients.
